Continuing the rush of Permablitz activity in this part of Melbourne, Alastair, Nancy and Susie invite one and all to 30 Birch St West Preston for a jam-packed day of permaculture workshops, demonstrations, installations and winter solstice feasting and festivity.
Nancy was a permaculture enthusiast at the emergence of permaculture in the 70s and continues her interest to this day. Winter solstice is a time of cycles starting and ending and here we plan to start collecting grey water and more rain water; installing an automatic distribution system (gravity is not on our side on this large 1&2/3rds block). Other workshops/sessions include: Circle garden making (and discussion); Worm-farming (Vermiculture) techniques; make your own A++ "Neverfill" worm farm (Murphy); improve on stacked worm bin system; the many uses of castings, Enhanced Verimcast solution preparation workshop; Active compost workshop, tuning an active compost in action; No dig (and no spray!) buffalo grass elimination; Winter green manuring in progress; Volunteer seed thinning; Seedling transplant to circle beds; Indigenous self seeding plant transplanting/potting/giving away; Simulated riparian zone and ponds after 7 years of drought and pouring rains Mulching and watering info session Please RSVP as we plan to provide a delicious winter solstice feast and need an idea of numbers a few days before the blitz. If anybody wants to bring morning-tea treats that would be lovely too. To those who have previously emailed us, please email again as I lost all my permablitz emails the other day – you know who you are!! Mattocks, shovels and barrows could be useful. Any composted materials or rock dust will be most gratefully received. usefuldesign.au@gmail.com Public transport is all around including 112 Tram and Bell St Bus.
