Welcome

Welcome to permablitz.net - this site has been set up to help people get together and have fun learning about, designing and implementing suburban permaculture systems.  Our focus is edible gardens, and our ultimate aim is to make the suburbs edible enough such that should food become unaffordable, we don’t even notice.  See below for the next permablitz and feel free to submit your own onto the calendar.  Check out photos of blitzes 1-6 here, and photos of more recent blitzes in our gallery.

Permablitz Deis-y-Seite (17) on March 18 2007 - A Description of the Day PDF Print E-mail

Permablitz Deis-y-Seite (17) was a fun day and a great success with photos here . A huge turn out of enthusiastic and skilled folk came along and transformed parts of Fiona and Anthony's yard. The day started off with some finalising of the design and changes occurred throughout the day as people's ideas infiltrated the plan to take advantage of the slope of the land and so on. In the front garden a pond, pathways and garden beds were put in, along with a bush tucker plant and a bean cover crop amongst others. Worm castings were added to the beds and a worm farm installed out the back. Other teams worked on putting up a fox proof chicken shed, seeding trays up for future blitz planting and getting the site cleaned up and prepared for more work at a future blitz! Other activities included removing seeds from the sunflowers and cooking up fantastic pesto pasta. Fiona talked about her tank and grey water set up and we were fortunate enough to have a viewing of Tanya Curnow's film and a demonstration of a designing computer program. To top the day off we had a drum and a dance. Photos to come. A big thanks to all those who came along. Also somebody left their jumper! (It's green.)

"At the heart of any town or city is the community and the more people help and interact with each other, the stronger the community. This [permablitz] project brings people together so they can help one another, and learn from each other in a relaxed garden setting. In a time when food costs are on the rise and our waistlines are expanding, the edible gardens project couldn't be timelier." Former AFL star Justin Madden
