Welcome

Welcome to permablitz.net - this site has been set up to help people get together and have fun learning about, designing and implementing suburban permaculture systems.  Our focus is edible gardens, and our ultimate aim is to make the suburbs edible enough such that should food become unaffordable, we don’t even notice.  See below for the next permablitz and feel free to submit your own onto the calendar.  Check out photos of blitzes 1-6 here, and photos of more recent blitzes in our gallery.

[UPDATE 2/2/2008: The Feb 23-24 course is now fully booked.  Sorry to those that who missed out.  We're running another one March 29-30, however, so stay tuned. :) ]

Due to interest and demand from the permablitz community, we're running another two-day Introduction to Permaculture course on the weekend of February 23rd and 24th.  We had overwhelmingly good feedback from the last one, and it was a lot of fun too.  So please come along!

Time and location:

9am to 5pm (arriving 8:45 for a 9am start)

Port Philip EcoCentre, St Kilda Botanical Gardens.
Cnr Herbert and Blessington Streets, St Kilda
Melway ref. 58 B11

We're switching things around a bit this time, but these are the likely topics
:
  • Intro, history and scope of permaculture
  • Permaculture ethics
  • The following permaculture principles:
    1. Observe and interact
    2. Catch and store energy
    3. Obtain a yield
    4. Apply self regulation and accept feedback
    5. Use and value renewable resources and services
    6. Produce no waste
    7. Design from patterns to details
    8. Integrate rather than segregate
    9. Use small and slow solutions
    10. Use and value diversity
    11. Use edges and value the marginal
    12. Creatively use and respond to change
Within these principles we'll be covering some practical strategies for:
  • Soil care
  • Water harvesting techniques
  • Urban animals
  • Companion planting
  • Multiple uses for each functional element of a design
  • Backing up major functions
  • Locating complimentary elements in a design
There will be practical demonstrations, photos and examples, group work including design, some fun and relevant games and a tour of the Veg Out community gardens .

Cost:

$75 to $140, with participants paying the amount that suits their budget.  Lunch and morning and afternoon tea is supplied (but you're welcome to bring some food to share too!)

Where to book:

Please use the online form at  www.permablitz.net/pb_rego/

Payment can be made seperately by direct debit.  You will be sent instructions when you register.

What to bring:

Just bring a notebook and pens for yourself; we'll be supplying butchers paper and textas for group work.
