Permablitz founder Dan Palmer is still making permaculture stronger

Having had the pleasure of helping start Permablitz almost twelve years ago, it’s been exciting to see it evolve and grow as, among others things, an accessible and fun way for people to get started with permaculture.

Having contributed to something that introduces people to permaculture, however, I feel responsible for doing my bit towards making permaculture as wonderful and worthwhile as possible. I want to make sure the thing permablitz introduces people to is the best thing it can be!

Because the core of permaculture is design, I’m really interested in helping further and deepen our understandings of permaculture design as a way to create beautiful, largely edible eco-systems. Including those going in on permablitzes around the globe!

One of the main ways I’ve been acting on this urge during the last few years is through the Making Permaculture Stronger project. This includes a blog where I and many others have been exploring ways that permaculture design might become even better.

One of the most exciting aspects of the making permaculture stronger project for me has been striking up a conversation about these topics with permaculture co-originator David Holmgren.

This conversation has in turn led to David and I running an annual four-day workshop that is all about inviting others into this ever-evolving conversation about permaculture design process.

The workshop is called Advanced Permaculture Planning and Design Process and it starts in a few weeks (April 3-6th).

For me, this workshop is one of the most important ways I feel like I can contribute to a better, stronger, more beautiful permaculture. Among other things it is an excuse for David and I to spend something like six days together going deep into permaculture design (two days of prep and four days in the company of participants).

I wrote up a detailed report about the first time we ran this course, which was in 2017.

Now as you can imagine, I am am very keen for Holmgren Design Services, who run this course, to get the numbers they’d like for it to be a success.
