Tofu making workshop

Location - Altona Meadows Primary School
In this workshop, you will be making your own Tofu using Japanese traditional methods and local ingredients. We use organic, non-GMO, Australian soybeans.
Come and experience the whole process of Tofu making. Also you will become familiar with many varieties of tofu and their ingredients.Furthermore, we will provide a shared tasting of Tofu related cuisine and their by-products such as ‘Okara’.
Eventually you will become a Tofu master!!
Class includes:
- Information session to learn the facts of Tofu: history, varieties, nutritional benefits, process making, etc.,
- Shared tasting lunch to experience Tofu and Okara related cuisine.
- Hands-on Tofu making session to learn the actual process (You will take your own Tofu to your home and enjoy!!).
Take Home items:
- Your own Tofu approximately for two people, and also Okara left over on the day.
- Simple Tofu making kit includes Japanese Nigari, a Tofu coagulant, so you can make Tofu at home.
- Printed Instructions which cover the process to make your own Tofu at home independently.
Recommendation on the day:
- Apron to protect your clothes
- Container to take away Tofu cuisine or Okara
This workshop is presented by Shotaro from Ferm.shed Mamehana. Shotaro is a Japanese fermenter who has been cooking and introducing traditional Japanese food to local people. He is also an Altona Community Garden committee member. Find out more about Japanese fermenting at Ferm.shed Mamehana
