Native produce plants – or bush food – are becoming increasingly popular. Unfortunately, many native fruits are from hotter parts of Australia, so can’t be grown in Melbourne. However, in this class you’ll learn the amazing range of little-known native fruits that can be grown here in Melbourne. As well, you’ll also learn how to grow, harvest and use them, with an added focus on that will grow and fruit in pots.
Karen Sutherland, of Edible Eden Design, has been growing and experimenting with a range of native food plants and fruits in her northern suburbs garden for the last 12 years and brings that experience to this class.
Karen also has more than 25 years’ experience designing, planting and maintaining gardens, with a special emphasis on bush-foods, edible and sustainable gardens. She grew up gardening, amongst a family of gardeners and farmers, and continues this family tradition, enthusiastically helping others to live this choice of home produce-growing. Karen also uses current technologies that are sustainable and beneficial to the environment, always seeking to benefit the garden site and the people and creatures that rely on it. Karen is qualified in both horticulture and permaculture.
