Would you like the opportunity to live on an organic farm?
Farms are the food-bowl of the world, and with the growing food to table movement becoming more mainstream more people are thinking of starting farms of their own. But wanting a farm and gaining experience working and living in one are very different things! But there is an answer – many farms all over the world are more than happy for you to experience farm-life through programs such as WWOOF (Willing Workers on Organic Farms) or HelpX.
Marilyn is one such farmer, and right now she is offering the chance to learn all her tricks of the trade in her permaculture-based farm.
The Sanctuary is a 16 Acre property located in NE Victoria where Marilyn aims to live a self sufficient lifestyle. She produces fruit and veggies using organic principals. She also milks goats and makes cheese, (soft Chevre fromage, Caprino Romano hard cheese, halloumi), all using raw milk.
Marilyn also has chooks as well as Kharki Campbell and Indian Runner ducks, plus bees which produce lots of honey.
She also has a large plot of garlic for harvesting and makes jams with her raspberries and strawberries.
I’m wanting to give someone an opportunity to experience living off the land, so the person could assist/learn or even have their own project. The person would need to be passionate about animal care/welfare. Accommodation could be either be in my caravan or for the right person a room in the house. ( All is negotiable!).
I realise how hard it is for young people today to get experience on a farm and this is my motivation.
What I would be looking for is some help around the farm which will be negotiated, work, hours, day etc.
Very happy to have people come and see how the farm runs, even stay the weekends, I’m open to suggestion.
A little about me: I’m female, not young, but not old either! I have been living here for the past 14 year and have established a lovely place (in my view), I’m very passionate about what I do and I hope that I could pass on my experience and also my failures.
I’m a member of HelpX (host 33362) and was a member of WWOOF for many years
