The Montmorency blitz was a food-fuelled day of hugelkultur, eating, wicking beds, eating, orchard planting, eating, chicken coop upgrading and eating. And eating!
This blitz was the result of a super-powered team-up with the Country Women’s Association, My Smart Garden and little old us – and with our combined efforts we made this Newport yard and verge more sustainable – and more edible!
On a cold and rainy day, a dedicated team of blitzers set about converting a narrow but roomy inner-north backyard into a perma-productive garden.
A fun filled day in Fairfield spent preparing an edible verge, building a pond and preparing the world’s best chook house… It’s the Permablitz way!
The sweltering day was made cooler by the enclave of native vegetation throughout Anne-Marie’s Eltham property, enabling the volunteers to complete their edible garden, with compost bays, swales, a pond and more!
Permablitz has long supported kinders and preschools, and on a lovely Saturday volunteers and parents alike completed the transformation of Dame Nellie Melba kinder into a sustainability wonderland.
Jess and Matt lead the team, setting up two wicking beds, installing some fence posts and planting some fruit trees, as well as building the keyhole raised beds in the front yard. Awesome work!
What do you get when you combine a great community spirit with the power of permablitz? You get a boat sailing in a sea of warrigal greens that flows into a dry creek with its own bridge, that is in turn surrounded by a mini fruit orchard.
We recognised the house by a *massive* pile of mulch lying on the pavement. Meanwhile, in the backyard an enthusiastic gang of blitzers were sharing their experiences with trees. For some this was limited to climbing and hugging.
