Permablitz 100th Birthday Milestone (A birthday message from Costa!)

Dear Bitzers,

Thanks for the opportunity to share a few words with you all gathered here on this special weekend. I am in Brisbane with the Regenag series and Joel Salatin . Would have loved to have been there in person but am there in spirit and beard..

I had the pleasure of being a part of a blitz some time back now in East Malvern in 2009 and documenting it as a segment on the show. Since then I have been spreading the word about what you do and what you have unleashed.

Today is a wonderful achievement and in my view of the world I believe it is important to recognise what we do in life, what we achieve as individuals , as a family, and as a community for that matter. Permablitz was an idea, an idea that stemmed from the thoughts of individuals…thoughts that each and every one of us have every day. There are lots and lots of good ideas crystallizing every second of every day. But the road from a thought crystallizing in this case to 100 Permablitz Gardens completed in 3D reality is what we are here to celebrate today. Today is about that road..the time, the challenges, the issues, the agreement, the disagreement, the evolution of the ideas into what is now a movement that has changed peoples lives, lots of peoples lives up until now and many many more as a result of the infectious nature of what a Permablitz releases each and every time they take place.

Each Blitz is different..I love that detail so much. Each blitz is a learning process for everyone involved…they are planned but they are spontaneous, flexible and open to that true living and breathing ‘X’ factor. Permablitz changes and challenges people’s perspectives on things… on everything from the big picture, but more importantly on the little day to day details that can be so entrenched and seemingly hard to shift or engage.

Humble Melbourne beginnings and yet the ‘blitz’ is spreading its wings and effecting people globally. That is the true sign of a wonderful achievement, that it is being taken and used, open source in places well beyond its birth place, but giving rise to change and learning elsewhere… taking education from its seed place… a local idea making change happen locally and in a manageable way, but in the process adding to the international matrix of accessible food : food security through local supply. Giving people the opportunity to access chemical free food, grown locally with love, building understanding of cycles and seasons, and the ability to eat food from the backyard, biogenically consumed within minutes of harvest.

You have unleased an understanding of the soil..people feeding their soil to fuel their soul.

I have nothing but admiration for what you have achieved and what you have created.

There’s no known cure to the pandemic you have released….I’m infected in perpetuity..

Happily contagious and knowingly spreading your virus….yipppeeeeeeeeeeeeee
