Blitz 146 in North Carlton
On a sunny day in September 2013, (8th) a dozen people came together in a peaceful little backyard in North Carlton to transform an underutilized space into a productive inner city garden. The design team around Simon and Hermann wanted to create a fun experience for the participants as well as using as many local resources as possible to make the backyard more green and enjoyable.
The big project was the veggie bed, which was going to combine espalier fruit trees and a rainwater infiltration as well as keyhole gardening. But there were other side projects and fun workshops.
We learned about building a worm box from polystyrene boxes, planted a herb garden, installed a rainwater collection and planted many fruit trees.
A good example of what can happen in a small space with little effort and lots of fun!
