Permablitz #26 – Gisborne
I just want to start by expressing our huge appreciation to the Permablitz volunteers for coming from far afield all the way out to Gisborne’s Montessori school. A description of the day follows:
Saturday – Our spirits were high as we watched volunteers arrive in numbers never before seen at a school tree planting day! Dietmar’s exemplary organisation skills ensured efficient planting techniques, with a record total of approx. 430 trees planted, guarded and watered in during the day. The wildlife corridor is now well established and will be fenced and seedballed with native understorey shrubs and grasses to complete the wildlife nirvana envisaged. The roadside boundary was planted out in a gorgeous acacia hedge to attract the native birds and create privacy within the school environment. More to come when the dam and wetlands are created…
Sunday – Windbreaks were extended and filled in, food forest plants and groundcovers were planted and seedballs were squished… a small but highly effective group resulted in a really successful day. Thanks to Clarisse and Euan, for your much valued skills and of course the cake!
We had a fantastic weekend with our school permaculture vision reaching another milestone in its development. Thank you to Madeleine, Paul, Liz, John, Melanie, Clarisse and Euan for all your help! I hope we can invite you all back in the future to revel in the enhanced beauty of our school environment…
Thanks again, Linda
